Hydrovac Swamper

Chilliwack, BC

Valley Waste & Recycling Inc is a liquid and solid waste management company that has been serving the Fraser Valley for over 20 years. We pride ourselves on keeping the streets clean, providing exceptional customer service, and supporting the communities we serve.

We currently have openings for full-time hydro-vac swampers/labourers to join our growing team. We’re looking for great people with a team-oriented mindset, excellent punctuality and reliability, and who are hardworking. This position is completed outdoors in all types of weather and is very physical.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe operation of the HyVac in all aspects.
  • Assist with setting up on job sites, checking for potential hazards on the job, ie: overhead power lines, ground stability for operating on.
  • Help guide truck and operator into position at manholes covers, sanitary lids, fence post holes, also direct truck in and out of job sites, ie wet well compounds.
  • Wear PPE as required, as well as protective gear.
  • Prepare equipment for specified jobs. ie: digging, flushing, pumping. Knowledge of different setups, and what tools are required to accomplish the setting up of the HyVac.
  • Follow directions from the Operator.
  • Always keep the safety of the Operator in mind.
  • Have knowledge of the basic operation of the HyVac and help with troubleshooting of the operations of the truck.
  • Knowledge of the daily routine for washing and cleaning, and fueling of the truck, at the end of the day.
  • Assist with the regular maintenance and repairs that the Operator would perform.
  • Teamwork and good communication skills. Be responsible to Operator and The Supervisor.
  • Good customer relations.
  • Physical stamina and strength to lift heavy items and work overtime.
  • Assist in maintaining and recording Run Sheets and Customer Billings.
  • Regular check in’s to either dispatch or Supervisor when working in off-road situations or where you will be at remote type locations.
  • Work in all types of weather – potential for overtime, emergency call-outs, and/or weekends.
  • Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations.
  • Practice safe work procedures at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Specific Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-year experience in this position or a related field
  • Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Road knowledge of the lower mainland area
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to establish work priorities to ensure deadlines are met
  • The ability to operate required equipment in a safe and responsible manner
  • Good problem solving/decision-making skills
  • Physically fit; able to perform a physically demanding job
  • Able to work in various outdoor weather conditions (year-round)

Septic Driver

Valley Waste and Recycling Inc is a liquid and solid waste management company that has been servicing the Fraser Valley for over 20 years. We pride ourselves on keeping the streets clean, providing excellent customer service, and supporting the communities we serve.

We’re currently looking for a full-time driver to join our growing team. This role consists of loading and dumping our trucks at the appropriate dump sites. The successful candidate for this position will be reliable, a team player, and have experience driving a Class 3 vehicle.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Completion of daily pre/post-trip inspections, general cleaning of an assigned truck in/outside, customer work orders or bills, and daily logbooks
  • Emptying the truck’s holding tank as needed
  • Maintain consistent communication with supervisor and dispatch to receive and follow instructions
  • Immediately report any maintenance or damage related to the assigned truck
  • Follow site-specific PPE requirements upon arrival
  • Report all significant events on the road, including violations and near misses
  • Practice safe operation of the truck while driving, filling, and emptying tanks
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Specific Skills:

  • Road knowledge of the Lower Mainland area
  • Strong communication skills
  • Good problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Able to perform a physically demanding job in all types of weather conditions
  • Ability to work overtime on an “as needed” basis
  • Ability to establish work priorities to ensure deadlines are met

Education & Experience:

  • Possess a valid Class 3 (or Class 1) driver’s license with air brakes
  • Previous experience in a related industry (preferred)
  • 2 years professional driving experience (preferred)
