Safety Policy Statement

Valley Waste & Recycling Inc. is committed to safely providing quality services to our customers in a manner that ensures a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and customers.

The company is in the business of portable toilet rental and service, septic tank pumping and inspections, residential and commercial curbside pick-ups, roll-off services, hydro-excavation, and commercial and residential front-end garbage, recycling, and organic services.

Our safety objectives are “Zero Accidents” and “Full Compliance” with applicable legislative requirements of the Workers Compensation Act, OHS Regulation and WorkSafeBC.

Management commitments:

  • Develop and maintain safety policies and procedures to control the hazards and risks associated with the company’s work activities

  • Provide adequate resources and training to ensure safety in the workplace

  • Appoint a worker health and safety representative to provide worker input for safety programs

Supervisors’ responsibilities:

  • Ensure the health and safety of all workers under their direct supervision

  • Know the relevant regulations applicable to the work being supervised

  • Ensure workers under their supervision are aware of all known or reasonably foreseeable health or safety hazards

Workers’ responsibilities:

  • Take reasonable care to protect their health and safety and the health and safety of other persons who may be affected by their acts or omissions at work

  • Carry out their work in accordance with established safe work procedures and programs

  • Use or wear protective equipment, devices, and clothing as required

  • Report any unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents to their supervisors

  • Ensure that their ability to work is not impaired by alcohol, drugs or other causes

Worker representatives’ responsibilities:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of the OHS program

  • Liaise with workers and the employer on matters relating to health and safety in the workplace
